Description
The Cisco Police Department has one opening available for the position of full time patrol officer. We are looking for experienced officers to complement our department, however we are willing to train the right academy graduate.
The City of Cisco is located in the heart of the Texas Big Country. Cisco is 45 miles east of Abilene and 105 miles west of Fort Worth at the crossroads of Highway 183, Highway 206 and Interstate Highway 20. Cisco was founded in 1881 with the entry of the Texas and Pacific (T&P) Railway. The city is named for New York banker John Jay Cisco who arranged financing for the railroad. Cisco is home to the first hotel acquired by Conrad Hilton in 1919. The city enjoys a beautiful lake to the north and is surrounded by ranch and farm land. A vibrant commerce serves residents, visitors, and travelers.
The City of Cisco operates under a home rule charter as a council-manager form of government. Cisco encompasses approximately 5.0 square miles, all within Eastland County, and has a 2020 census population of 3883.
The Cisco Police Department is comprised of 9 full-time officers, 1 animal control officer and 1 administrative assistant. Our patrol officers are responsible for criminal patrol, initial investigations, traffic enforcement in town and on Interstate 20. Our department is also responsible for marine enforcement on Lake Cisco, typically from May to October.
Cisco officers are expected to be pro-active with enforcement and be involved within the community by participating in the community policing concept and our annual community outreach programs. The Cisco Police Department also takes great pride in having strong support from our community members, stakeholders, mayor and city council.
The City of Cisco offers the following pay and benefits for the patrol officer position:
- $24.00 per hour ($52,416 Annually) as of 10/01/2025, with 84 hour pay periods bi-weekly.
- TCOLE certificate pay is available at $25.00 per certificate, per pay period including your basic through master cert.
- Longevity Pay.
- Full medical, dental and vision plans are provided to the employee at no cost, coverage starts at the 1st of each month.
- Retirement benefits are through TMRS, 2 to 1 match by the city. 20-year retirement at any age and 5-year vesting.
- An optional 457(b) retirement program is also available to employees through Valueteach.
- Employees accrue up to 80 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year.
- Employees accrue vacation time at the following rates: 1-9 years/80 hrs, 10-19 years/120 hrs, 20+ years/160 hrs per year.
- If you live within the Cisco area, you may be eligible for a take home police vehicle.
- For the current budget year, the city offers 11 paid or comp holidays and 1 additional paid floating birthday holiday.
- Hours over 86 in the pay period may be taken as overtime or you may accrue comp time.
- Uniforms, duty weapons and less lethal options are issued by the department.
- The department operates under the COPsync Records Management System with in-car and office applications.
Requirements
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of hiring with the city.
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must not have been convicted of any class A or B misdemeanor offense within the last 10 years.
- Must not have been convicted of any grade felony offense.
- Must not have been convicted of any offense involving family violence, anywhere.
- Must not have had a driver license suspension within the last 7 years.
- Must be able to pass the TCOLE required medical physical, psychological and drug screening.
- May be subject to applicable vision and hearing screenings.
- Preference will be given to applicants with peace officer experience.
- Must be able to participate in and successfully complete an FTO program.
- Applicants with previous experience may participate in an abbreviated FTO program.
- Must have a valid Texas driver license, or be able to obtain a Texas driver license by the time of hiring.
- Must currently be licensed or able to be licensed by TCOLE and be in good standing.
- Must be free of mental/physical defect(s) that would prevent a person from performing the duties of a police officer.
- Must pass an extensive background check.
- Must be willing to do shift work, patrol works 12-hour shifts to make 84-hour pay periods.
