Description
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs routine maintenance and preventative service on City vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective fleet operations. Responsibilities include oil and filter changes, tire repair and replacement, maintenance inspections, state safety inspections, basic mechanical repairs, roadside assistance, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Works under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of automotive maintenance or repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
3. Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Texas State Safety Inspector License.
- Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout employment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs scheduled maintenance on City vehicles and equipment.
- Conducts preventative maintenance services, including oil and filter changes.
- Performs tire repair, balancing, rotation, and replacement.
- Completes maintenance inspections and identifies repair needs.
- Performs State Safety Inspections in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Provides roadside assistance for tire repairs and other minor service needs.
- Performs basic mechanical repairs and component replacements.
- Maintains accurate records of labor, parts used, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Operates automotive lifts, jacks, battery chargers, power tools, and other fleet maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all applicable safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Automotive maintenance principles, practices, and procedures.
- Preventative maintenance schedules and inspection processes.
- Vehicle and equipment operating systems and components.
- Safe operation of maintenance tools and equipment.
- Occupational safety practices related to fleet maintenance operations.
- City policies and procedures.
Skills in:
- Diagnosing routine vehicle and equipment maintenance issues.
- Operating automotive maintenance equipment and tools safely.
- Reading and interpreting maintenance manuals and technical information.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and employees from other departments.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a fleet maintenance shop environment with moderate to high noise levels. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employee must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 75 pounds regularly while performing maintenance activities. Work involves operating machinery, power tools, lifts, jacks, and other automotive equipment. Employee may be exposed to exhaust fumes, oils, lubricants, chemicals, dust, noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying weather conditions. Approximately 25% of work is performed outdoors and is subject to temperature and weather variations.
