RECRUITMENT BROCHURE

____________________________________________________________________________________

Messer Fort is hiring an Associate Attorney for its Austin office who will practice primarily as a Municipal Court Prosecutor. The firm's Prosecution Section handles the criminal prosecution of Class C misdemeanors and municipal ordinance violations for its city clients, along with administrative adjudications in the hearing officer's court, parking appeals, stormwater proceedings, and bond forfeitures.

Like every attorney at the firm, you will work directly with clients, conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and attend meetings of the governing body. The position is full-time with a hybrid remote schedule.

Texas licensure in good standing is required.

Core Responsibilities

  • Municipal Prosecution: Prosecute Class C misdemeanors and municipal ordinance violations, including traffic violations, assault, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and theft.
  • Court Representation: Represent clients in hearings, trials, depositions, and other legal proceedings.
  • Administrative Proceedings: Handle administrative adjudications in the hearing officer's court, parking appeals, stormwater proceedings, and bond forfeitures.
  • Research and Drafting: Conduct legal research and analysis, and draft pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate settlements and case resolutions on behalf of clients.
  • Client Counsel: Communicate with clients, provide legal advice and guidance, and attend meetings of the governing body.
  • Caseload Management: Manage an active caseload and meet court deadlines.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Messer Fort is looking for a self-motivated prosecutor with a strong work ethic and a passion for the law. This attorney is prepared and composed in court, works well with officers, court staff, and municipal judges, and keeps the city client informed. The role suits an attorney who wants regular courtroom time and a practice devoted entirely to Texas cities.

Key Requirements

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
