Description

The Police Officer performs responsible law enforcement duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, investigation of criminal offenses, emergency response, and community engagement activities. Officers are expected to maintain a visible presence within the community and foster positive relationships with residents, businesses, and visitors. 
The position requires sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to perform law enforcement duties consistent with Texas law, TCOLE requirements, and City ordinances and policies. Officers may work patrol, investigations, community policing assignments, special events, emergency response operations, and other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
Law Enforcement Duties 
The Police Officer shall: 
Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity and enforce laws and ordinances. 
Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. 
Investigate criminal offenses and suspicious activities. 
Prepare detailed incident, arrest, accident, and investigative reports. 
Conduct traffic enforcement and accident investigations. 
Issue warnings, citations, and make arrests when appropriate. 
Execute warrants and court orders. 
Collect, preserve, and document evidence. 
Testify in Municipal, County, State, and Federal Courts. 
Assist neighboring law enforcement agencies when requested. 
Maintain working knowledge of criminal statutes and legal procedures. 
Community Policing 
The Police Officer shall: 
Build positive relationships with residents and businesses in local area. 
Conduct business and vacation checks. 
Participate in crime prevention initiatives. 
Attend community events when assigned. 
Assist citizens with public safety concerns. 
Support youth and community outreach programs. 
Emergency Response 
The Police Officer shall: 
Respond to medical emergencies until EMS arrives. 
Assist during natural disasters and emergency incidents. 
Participate in emergency management operations. 
Provide traffic and crowd control during special events. 
Support mutual aid responses when required. 
Administrative Responsibilities 
The Police Officer shall: 
Complete reports and required documentation accurately and timely. 
Maintain vehicle and equipment readiness. 
Participate in required training. 
Maintain all certifications and licenses. 
Comply with departmental policies and procedures. 
Protect confidential information and criminal justice records. 
  
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
Knowledge of:

Criminal investigations

Minimum Qualifications 
Required 
Applicants must: 
Possess a current Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE or be eligible for immediate licensing. 
Meet all TCOLE minimum standards for appointment.  
Possess a valid Texas Driver License. 
Be able to lawfully possess and carry a firearm. 
Pass a comprehensive background investigation. 
Pass psychological and medical evaluations, if required. 
Have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history under Texas law and TCOLE standards.  
Preferred 
Intermediate, Advanced, or Master Peace Officer Certification. 
Experience in municipal law enforcement. 
Community policing experience. 
Spanish language proficiency. 
Radar, SFST, ALERRT, and Crisis Intervention certifications. 
  
Physical Requirements 
Officers must maintain the ability to: 
Walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods. 
Run short distances during emergency situations. 
Lift and carry at least 50 pounds. 
Assist injured persons when necessary. 
Climb stairs, fences, and uneven terrain. 
Operate department-issued firearms and equipment safely. 
Meet departmental firearms qualification standards. 
Maintain physical readiness consistent with active police service.
