The Community Development Clerk serves as the first point of contact for development-related inquiries, including building permits, zoning applications, code enforcement concerns, and engineering-related matters. This position assists citizens, contractors, and developers with the submission and processing of land development applications while providing administrative and customer service support to the Community Development Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as the primary point of contact for building, planning and zoning, neighborhood services, and engineering inquiries; provides front counter customer service, application assistance, permit intake, and permit issuance.
Reviews land development applications for completeness and routes applications to appropriate departments for review.
Maintains and updates information within the permitting software system.
Provides administrative support for Community Development programs, including processing code enforcement correspondence, assisting with registrations, and scheduling inspections.
Processes contractor registrations and issues non-technical permits for Community Development and Engineering divisions.
Responds to telephone, email, and in-person inquiries by providing information or directing individuals to the appropriate department or staff member.
Assists contractors and residents with questions regarding department procedures, permit requirements, and applicable city ordinances; provides requested public documents and records.
Research, retrieves, and reviews historical records, including parcel ownership, violations, inspections, and other information related to open records requests.
Compiles and maintains reports, records, correspondence, and statistical or financial information in accordance with established procedures.
Manages multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.
Maintains regular and reliable attendance and interacts professionally and courteously with the public and coworkers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma/GED; plus, one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License Notary Public or capability of becoming a Notary
SPECIALIZED KSA’S
Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant programs that are helpful but not required. Basic keyboarding skills required. Knowledge of use and minor maintenance of various office equipment such as printers and scanners.
