Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Assistant City Manager/ City Secretary, the Main Street and Events Coordinator organizes and administers the Mount Pleasant Main Street Program as part of the downtown revitalization strategy and organizing of community festivals and events. The position provides support, information, and exceptional customer service to the general public.
Education/Training/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, or public/business administration is preferred.
Three years of experience in marketing, special events, or design is required.
Graphics experience is preferred.
A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
Essential Job Functions:
1.Oversees the Main Street Program, including but not limited to:
a. Continuous communication with the downtown businesses and merchants to maintain relationships, analyze priorities, and promote the area through planning, economic development, and community events.
b. Facilitates the Main Street Advisory Board meetings and activities to include preparation of meeting materials, scheduling, communications, and documentation.
c. Coordinates with the Texas Historical Commission regarding projects, tours, consultations and submits quarterly reports.
d. Manages and updates the Main Street Historical Guideline Book for Preservation.
e. Communicates regarding code enforcement violations and historical guidelines in the Main Street District.
f. Coordinates with architects, builders, and others regarding renovation projects in the Main Street District.
g. Researches and submits for various grants and awards, including historical tax credits.
h. Edits, proofreads, and contributes to internal websites and external social media platforms.
i. Prepares reports and documentation as necessary to Texas Main Street and other agencies.
2.Supports the City’s overall special event programming.
Assists with special and community events, including research and communication with event participants and vendors.
Coordinates and oversees volunteers for various special and community events.
Purchases and inventories merchandise for special and community events.
Organizes all aspects of vendors for special and community events.
Secures grants through Texas Commission of the Arts for event services.
3.Provides a high level of customer service for the general public.
4.Manages the City’s and Main Street Facebook page
5.Performs other related duties as required.
6.Required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary. Must maintain a physical condition and standards necessary for the proper performance of duties, with or without accommodation. A flexible weekday work schedule is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of City practices and procedures.
Understanding of marketing, websites, and social media.
Possesses a high level of customer service skills.
4. Working knowledge of social media and digital administration tools.

Ability to operate a computer and related software and basic office equipment.

Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. Subject to sitting for an extended period of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 40 pounds. Working with a wide variety of people, some of whom may be irate or difficult.
