Description
Under general supervision of a Patrol Sergeant, enforces Federal, State and City Laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes, maintains a high visibility in the community to deter and prevent criminal activity, and educates the public in ways to protect themselves from criminal activity and/or prevent accidents and injuries.
Patrols public streets enforcing traffic and criminal law and gathers criminal intelligence. Makes violator contacts and places violator in custody or issues citations or warning. Investigates circumstances and causes of accidents, directs traffic, prepares reports on activities and submits to supervising officer. Assists Fire Department in controlling hazardous material incidents, maintains equipment in proper working order (i.e. flashlights, vehicles, weapons, and communication equipment), Utilizes communication equipment (mobile/handheld). Secures crimes and accident scenes, investigates crime scenes (i.e. search) Assist in locating missing persons. Search prisoners and logs property. Uses physical force when necessary to restrain and to arrest. Job includes carrying, climbing, crawling, kneeling, pulling, sitting, squatting, stooping, lifting, pushing, holding, twisting body and neck and running. Must be able to lift, aim and fire weapon accurately. Must be able to work in outdoor environment subject to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noises. Subject to long periods of sitting and driving patrol vehicles. Ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements
Must be 21
Must be a citizen of the United States
Must have a valid Texas Drivers License and maintain a good driving record
Certification: Basic TCOLE Certification
Must never have executed at any time a confession to a felony offense, such confession being confession being admissible as evidence against you in any criminal proceeding in any State of Federal Court.
Must not be under indictment for a felony offense.
Must not have any felony conviction, or conviction of a crime of moral turpitude or domestic violence.
Must not be on probation for any criminal offense.
Must never have been convicted of an offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor.
Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
Must be a High School graduate or possess an equivalent G.E.D. certificate.
Must be examined and certified physically satisfactory by a licensed physician.
Must be, when applicable, examined and certified mentally psychologically satisfactory by a licensed psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.
Applicant must have been discharged from military service under honorable conditions, if applicable.
Must meet any other standards set by law or by TCOLE policy
Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief of Police or his designee, perform duties pertinent to the function of which the Officer is assigned. Must exercise sound judgement within limits prescribed by laws, rules, regulations, and department polices with guidance from their supervisor. Work is subject to review through activity reports and periodic observation of operation, performs related work as required.
