West University Place, Texas, incorporated in 1924, is an urban enclave community located in the middle of the Houston metropolitan area. The City is minutes from downtown, Rice University, the Texas Medical Center, and the Galleria and Uptown shopping areas. Although land area is only about 2 square miles, West U boasts an assessed valuation of property in excess of $2.7 billion.

Primarily a residential community, it also contains several commercial strips and is adjacent to major retail centers. City government has a full-time staff of 129 and a current operating budget of $40 million. Known as "A Neighborhood City," West U provides a full level of services, including police, fire, water, wastewater, and solid waste collection services.

West U is a highly desirable and attractive place to work. The community is active and involved in civic issues and its location to cultural and recreational opportunities are second to none.

West U has been progressive, stable, and adequately financed. City Council and the City Management Team have had a productive working relationship. The municipal government has been well led and fiscal health and stability have been maintained.
