Description
Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Finance Director, the Accountant II has the responsibility for the maintenance of accounts, general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, assisting with monthly financials, and assisting in budget preparation & review.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Examines, verifies, and approves transactions logged in subsidiary and general account ledgers.
2. Prepares trial balances.
3. Maintains detailed records of budgets and expenditures.
4. Answers inquiries and provides information regarding the status of individual financial accounts.
5. Advises supervisor concerning status of accounts receivable and accounting activities.
6. Maintains general ledger accounts.
7. Reconciles accounting records.
8. Operates computer display station, enters data as required.
9. Prepares miscellaneous billing.
10. Reconciles bank accounts at the end of the month.
11. Provides customer service support to the general public at City Hall.
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting theory, principles, and practices.
2. Ability to maintain accounts and records, prepare reports summarizing the status of accounts and activities involving municipal transactions.
3. Must possess exceptional customer service relations and coordination skills.
4. Expected to exercise independent judgment within established guidelines.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. Subject to sitting for an extended period of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 40 pounds. Work with a wide variety of people, some of whom may be irate or difficult.

Requirements
Education/Training/Experience Requirements:
Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Five years’ experience in accounting applications.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
