- Administrative Assistant/Utility Billing Clerk
Description
The City of Jarrell is seeking applications for an Administrative Assistant/Utility Billing Clerk. This position requires teamwork and provides assistance to the other city departments by performing a variety of administrative and organizational functions, including cash receipts, data entry, filing and other duties as assigned. The main purpose of this position This position works under the general supervision of the Municipal Clerk, with the primary position as assisting with the activities and operations of the Utility Billing Department. Performs responsible, professional and administrative work, which requires exercising independent judgment and mature discretion. Provides excellent customer service to citizens, customers and other parties by phone and in person, i.e. answers questions in a friendly professional manner. Performs as a responsible steward of public trust and strives for excellence in public service and related duties as assigned. We are looking for a master multi-tasker with excellent communication skills and an upbeat attitude. Candidates should be able to assist all visitors by handling office tasks, providing polite and professional assistance via phone, mail, and e-mail. Proper cash handling, maintaining confidentiality, attention to detail and accuracy is required. Prior municipal government and utility billing experience preferred. Spanish speaking helpful.
Salary/Benefits: The pay range is $17.00 to $23.00 per hour; and will depend upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
HS Diploma or GED
1 or more years of relevant work experience
Ability to obtain and maintain Notary Public certification
Must be proficient with Office 365 and spreadsheets and accounting software
Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge of the Utility Billing Process.
Ability to speak clearly over telephone and face-to-face situations.
Ability to listen to assist the general public and other City employees with policies and procedures.
Work is performed indoors in an office setting.
Handle confidential matters with discretion.
Work may be subject to time pressures, frequent changes to tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working alone 50% or more of the time, working closely with others as part of a team, and dealing with irate people at the front desk.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and publishing software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); and other occupation-related business equipment as needed.
