- Animal Control Officer
Description
Responsible for assuring compliance with City Ordinance related to the keeping of animals within the city.
Typical Duties:
- Ensure that stray animals are captured and impounded.
- Responsible for maintaining clean surroundings for impounded animals.
- Responsible for humane destruction of unwanted stray animals.
- Enforce the provisions of the animal control ordinance by filing complaints in the municipal court.
- Prepares monthly reports on all impounded dogs, sale of licenses, ect.
- Uses dart gun to capture animals.
- Uses various types of chemicals that are used to control animals.
- Handles animal bites complaints.
- Testify in court on complaints filed.
- Disposes of dead animals.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Must be physically agile and capable of running at least 200 yards and have no physical impairments which would preclude engaging in sometimes strenuous physical activities under varying weather conditions.
Must posses a valid Texas Drivers License. Must be knowledgeable of various types of chemicals used to control animals and laws governing quarantining of animals. Must posses a basic certification on Animal Control within one year from date of employment. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Responsible for developing relationships supporting adoption of animals.
Participates in Animal Advisory Committee.
