Description
Job Summary:
The Aquatic Technician performs skilled maintenance and technical work related to the operation, repair, and upkeep of public swimming pools, splash pads, fountains, and associated mechanical systems. This position ensures aquatic facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations. The Aquatic Technician conducts water quality testing, maintains equipment, responds to operational issues, and supports special events and facility use.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience in aquatic facility maintenance or a related mechanical trade required.
- Experience in a municipal or parks and recreation setting preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification required.
- HVAC, electrical, or plumbing certifications preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Monitors, maintains, and repairs chemical feed systems, filtration equipment, and pumps at aquatic facilities.
- Inspects, troubleshoots, and performs preventative maintenance on mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
- Conducts daily water chemistry testing and maintains proper chemical balances in accordance with local and state health codes.
- Cleans pools, backwashes filters, and ensures circulation and sanitation systems function properly.
- Maintains accurate records of chemical readings, maintenance activities, and repairs.
- Assists with the opening, closing, and winterization of aquatic facilities.
- Coordinates with contractors and vendors for repairs, inspections, and facility upgrades.
- Ensures all work areas are clean, safe, and properly maintained.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies related to aquatic facility operations as required.
- Supports special events, programming, and facility rentals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Pool equipment, filtration systems, pumps, and chemical handling procedures.
- Preventative maintenance practices.
- City policies and procedures.
Skills in: - Diagnosing and repairing aquatic mechanical equipment.
- Safe handling and application of pool chemicals.
- Reading blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Using hand tools, power tools, and pool testing equipment.
- Communication, documentation, and recordkeeping.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in aquatic and mechanical environments with exposure to loud noises, chemicals, fumes, and varying weather conditions. Subject to standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires coordination of eye, hand, and foot movements to operate vehicles and equipment. Work may involve extended periods of physical activity.
