Description
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Two years of relevant work experience.
- Valid Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
- Currently hold or have the ability to obtain the “right of way” and “aquatic” categories of TDA within one year of the date of hire.
Under general supervision, the Chemical Technician performs skilled technical labor to control the weed and insect population, apply various pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and chemical applications, prevent potentially harmful diseases and fungi in the Town’s turf areas.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Receives general direction from the Chemical Specialist.
- No supervision is exercised.
Requirements
- Maintain equipment in a safe, operating manner such as all pump systems and nozzles, maintains all chemical inventories, and submits a product list for bid or quotes at a minimum of once a year.
- Controls weeds, diseases, and insects, using various types of equipment.
- Inspects parks, ponds and Town facilities for weeds, diseases, and insects; maintains and compiles all necessary documentation to meet state regulations and standards.
- Sprays and applies chemicals to landscapes and turf-areas such as parks, medians, and sports fields, and treats ponds for vegetative growth.
- Administers fertilizer and chemical applications by lifting and loading bags of fertilizer into spreaders, measuring for mixture, measuring the correct amounts of chemicals for the mixture and checking equipment calibration.
- Maintains records by tracking the quantities of chemicals and man-power hours used, generating and maintaining work orders and filling out TDA reports in accordance with standards and regulations.
- Manages and maintains turf areas in the medians, ponds, and right of ways; interacts with Town employees, citizens, and Prosper school officials; assists with various other projects such as erosion control, improvements to driveways, tree removal, and chipping of trees.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to all town policies and procedures regarding attendance and regulations.
- Attends and participates in various training and meetings.
- Prioritize and organize various assignments to produce efficient results.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Must be able to walk, stand, stretch, bend, twist, stoop, and kneel.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must have ability to pass a fit for duty exam appropriate to the physical demands of the position.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees must have the ability to maintain concentration in the midst of interruptions and background noise.
- Tasks may risk exposure to extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
