Description
The Pantego Fire Department (PFD) provides twenty-four-hour emergency services including fire suppression, advanced and basic life support, emergency medical services and transport, and rescue operations. Other initiatives include fire prevention and safety, emergency preparedness, life safety inspections, and the provision of public education and information. PFD is devoted to providing the highest quality fire rescue and emergency medical response to residents of Pantego. We take great pride in our average response time of two minutes or less. We value and support a strong fire, rescue, and EMS mutual-aid partnership with the City of Arlington.
- Directs the administrative activities of the Department including personnel management, policies and procedures and safety, fiscal, and planning responsibilities.
- Responds to and takes command of firefighting personnel at major fires and other emergencies.
- Serves regularly as Emergency Management Coordinator.
- Directs the Fire Officers to execute the daily operations of the fire department
- Evaluates the activities of the Lieutenants and if necessary other personnel.
- Holds members accountable to Town, Department, and State Standards
- Oversees the preparing of the annual budget, and oversees the administration of the budget after adoption
- Represents the Department at meetings and functions
- Generally works indoors but may also be required to work in an out-of-door environment, subject to extreme temperatures and inclement weather, and intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, toxins, carcinogens, loud noise.
- May be required to maintain physical activity over prolonged periods of time including standing up commanding a fire or other incident, walking, kneeling, and stooping in awkward positions, and moving/lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds
- Maintains physical readiness to Department standard if assuming role (temporarily) in Operations
- Leads by example setting an environment for the Department to both execute the daily operational mission and continue to grow an organization
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and city vehicle.
- Walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time.
- Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry up 10 pounds.
- Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Requirements
- Minimum of A.A.S. in Fire Administration or related degree
- Valid Texas “Class B” Driver’s License
- Advance Firefighter, Fire Officer, and Head of Department Certifications issued by Texas Commission on Fire Protection
- Other Required TCFP Certifications: Incident Commander, Instructor, Inspector, Incident Safety Officer
- Minimum of Advanced EMT Certificate as issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services
- Must have minimum 10 years fire service experience and served at least 3 years in a fire department administrative position.
- Abilities to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, control, and evaluate the performance of subordinates in both routine and emergency situations.
- Exhibits a thorough knowledge of principles, best practices and techniques of modern firefighting, emergency medical services and fire prevention; fundamentals of firefighting and of the techniques and equipment employed; laws, codes and regulations relating to fire fighting and fire prevention; the operation, capabilities and maintenance of the various types of apparatus and equipment used in modern firefighting.
