Summary
The City of Calvert is a quaint, historical town located 25 mi. halfway between Waco and Bryan-College Station on State Hwy 6, and is only 80 from the center of Austin. It is an exciting time to be part of an exciting growing town.
As city secretary the duties may include planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the City Secretary’s Office, and providing highly responsible and multifaceted administrative support to the City Administrator. Responsible for all records pertaining to official business of the City Council, and continuity of the City’s record’s management program, assists the City Administrator in making decisions including personnel, open records, and records management and acts as the city election administrator.

Requirements
Administrative, Council, and Records
- Provides administrative support to the City Administrator and Mayor
- The city Secretary is a local official with specific responsibilities dictated by law or statute to wit: proper posting of city council meeting notices, legal notices, public hearings and announcements by preparing, and posting these notices in compliance to the Texas Open Meeting Laws, both hard-copy and electronic, including postings to the City’s website and any social media outlets
- Maintains official city records and oversees records management and retention program, including serving as the City’s Records Management Officer.
- Maintains custody of official records and archives of the City including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, agreements, bonds, deeds, insurance, and minutes; certifies copies as required.
- Attends monthly City Council meetings and any Special Meetings called and records all official proceedings; prepares and preserves accurate minutes and other documents; directs the publication, filing, indexing, and safekeeping of all proceedings for the Council.
- Certifies and executes official City documents; maintains custody of City Seal; administers and files oaths of office.
- Maintains employee personnel files.
- Attend all necessary, City approved, training to keep City and Court records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Human Resources Duties:
- Manages personnel files, leave tracking, and employee certifications.
- Coordinates employee hiring, onboarding, and termination processes.
- Supports employee benefit enrollments and acts as liaison with providers.
- Assists the City Administrator in drafting and maintaining personnel policies.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws.
- Assists in handling employee grievances and supports conflict resolution efforts.
- Coordinates and tracks employee training and professional development.
