- City Secretary
Description
The City Secretary serves as the official records management officer for the City and is
responsible for administering all statutory duties assigned by the Texas Local Government
Code and other applicable laws. The City Secretary serves as the clerk to the City Council
and Mayor, maintains official City records, administers elections, coordinates public
notices and meetings, and oversees records management.
In addition to the statutory duties of the Office of the City Secretary, this position serves as
the City's Human Resources Administrator and is responsible for coordinating employee
recruitment, benefits administration, personnel records, policy administration, regulatory
compliance, and other human resource functions in support of the City's workforce.
The City Secretary performs highly responsible administrative, technical, and professional
work requiring independent judgment, exceptional organizational skills, discretion, and
knowledge of municipal operations.
This position reports directly to the Mayor and City Council.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications Experience:
-High School Diploma or GED (required)
-Five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience
-At least three (3) years of municipal government experience preferred
-Previous experience as a Texas Municipal Clerk preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
-Texas Registered Municipal Clerk (TRMC) certification or ability to obtain within
three (3) years of employment.
-Notary Public or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
Preferred:
-Texas Master Municipal Clerk (TMMC)
Physical Requirements:
-Ability to sit for extended periods while performing office duties.
-Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
-Ability to operate standard office equipment.
-Ability to attend meetings during evenings as required
