CODE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
JOB TITLE: Code Compliance Specialist
DEPARTMENT / DIVISION: Planning Department
REPORTS TO: Director of Planning
SALARY: $50,000
The City of Bulverde is seeking applications for the position of Code Compliance Specialist. This position is responsible for working with the community to help ensure that the City's vital health, environmental, and developmental quality regulations are observed and upheld. The chosen individual will report to the Planning Director and will interact with citizens, contractors, property owners, local businesses, and other members of the community to inform and enforce these important community standards.

Primary Responsibilities
This position will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Learn, study, and become knowledgeable about the City's various regulations related to health, safety, environmental protection, zoning, subdivision regulation, tree preservation, signage & advertising, and other local, state, & federal regulations.
- Provide superior customer service to citizens and members of the development community by answering questions and providing guidance on the above listed regulations, and on the City's informal and formal compliance processes.
- Receive complaints about non-compliance with City regulations, investigate complaints, and respond in accordance with City policy & procedure, as well as supervisor direction.
- Become familiar with area developments & business corridors, and perform routine observations to ensure that new non-compliance issues are resolved in a timely fashion.
- Visit critical areas of the community on a regular basis to identify & remedy non-compliance issues in a timely fashion.
- In instances where voluntary compliance is not attainable, coordinate with the Municipal Court to ensure that statutory compliance processes are initiated and adhered to.
- Other responsibilities, as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The person chosen for this position should have the following minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of regulations related to health, safety, environmental protection, zoning, subdivision regulation, tree preservation, signage & advertising, and other local, state, & federal regulations.
- The ability to interact with citizens, co-workers, and the general public with respect and understanding.
- The ability to handle stressful and/or confrontational situations in a calm and collected manner.
Qualifications
- Candidates for this position should meet the following qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience with a governmental agency or private sector entity responsible for regulatory oversight or compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to the development of property.
- Must be registered as a Code Enforcement Officer or Code Enforcement Officer in Training with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver License.
Physical Activity
The person chosen for this position should expect to work in both an office environment and out in the field, on job sites, on developed and undeveloped properties, and in public rights of way. This position should be able to lift up to 30 pounds without difficulty, and operate out of doors in open weather environments up to 50% of the work time. Significant travel outside of the Bulverde area is not anticipated, but travel by city owned vehicle throughout the Bulverde area should be anticipated on a daily basis.
