Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
Reviews the plans and inspects commercial and residential structures to make sure the structure and/or property complies with applicable requirements, regulations, ordinances, and codes.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the close supervision of the Permit/Code Enforcement Clerk and the City Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects properties (minimum of fifty contacts per week) for compliance with all city ordinances. Follow up on any violations resulting from those contacts.
Prepares and issues orders to cease work on job sites for non-compliance of codes, regulations, etc. Writes letters regarding compliance on specific issues and completes other written reports and records. Ensures all complaints and property inspections are properly documented.
Must be able to solve problems using deductive reasoning; exercise judgment under stress; maintain confidentiality of critical information; understand and follow both oral and written instructions and maintain a safe driving record. Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with city staff and the public.
Prepares press releases to newspapers on typical code violations for publication as needed. Prepares and submits weekly reports to the City Manager and monthly reports for inclusion in city council meeting packets. Performs related duties as instructed by the Permit/Code Enforcement Clerk and City Manager.
Reports to and is prepared to start work promptly at 8AM through 5PM, Monday through Friday.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
May perform portions of work of higher classified positions or similar complexity in any city department as required or assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(A) Possess a Texas Code Enforcement Officer License or ability to obtain within six months from date of employment.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE
(A) Ability to work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public and to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
(B) Must have considerable knowledge of city ordinances and other regulations as applicable.
(C) Must be able to read and understand ordinances and to identify areas of noncompliance.

Vehicle, phone, computer, and printer/copier.

Sufficient hearing capabilities required include ability to monitor radio, telephones or hear safety warnings.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
