Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, conducts inspections and field evaluations by investigating, researching, and evaluating code violations in private and public properties within the city limits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Makes premise and structure inspections to determine violations of City codes and ordinances
Investigates complaints such as high grass and weeds, junked vehicles, and hazardous vacant lots
Conducts investigations of reported code violations, including interviewing tenants/occupants, neighbors, contractors, etc. to evaluate the validity of the complaint
Refers code violations outside of the division’s enforcement to the appropriate department or agency
Coordinates with City staff to notify property owners or violators for any action taken, including possible fines, fees or charges for work performed
Coordinates the improvement or remedy of the violations with the property owners, violators, City authorized third parties and/or other City departments
Documents all actions taken by using City issued equipment (i.e., digital camera, computer) to ensure information is readily available
Assists with cases for hearings and trials, which may include providing witness testimony
Provides customer service by attending City events and special meetings to educate the public about City codes and City ordinances regarding code enforcement
Completes reports and maintains all documentation on inspections completed
May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Two (2) years of related experience is required. A valid Class C Driver’s License is required at time of hire and a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License is required within ninety (90) days of hire. Must be registered as a Code Enforcement Officer with the State of Texas within one (1) year of hire. Work requires knowledge in City codes and regulations, interpretation of polices, codes and municipal, state federal regulations and guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors. May be required to lift, hold, and carry tools and equipment up to 10 lbs. occasionally. Required to sit, stand, reach, twist, walk and bend to perform duties. Required to walk on uneven surfaces and climb ladders. Required to work in extreme temperatures (heat, cold, etc.). Required to work near dirt, noise, vibration, and dangerous machinery.
