- Crew Leader - Water Department
Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under minimal direction, the Crew Leader assists the Foreman in supervising and executing the daily operations of the Water Distribution and Water Production Divisions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assigns and supervises work crews in the absence of the Foreman; including daily reports and logs.
- Participates in the coordination of work schedules and after-hour assignments.
- Ensures safety procedures are followed and equipment is properly used at job sites.
- Ensures the enforcement of policies and procedures established by the City Administration.
- Responds to citizen inquiries as requested.
- Promotes good public relations.
- Ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to TCEQ policies and standards.
- Performs new utility inspection and final walk throughs in the absence of the Water Foreman.
- Works closely training new employees in the repair and maintenance of the water distribution system.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of S.C.A.D.A. based water production systems and automated meter reading systems.
- Computer skills in data entry and data acquisition.
- Knowledge of State and Federal water rules and laws.
- Ability to communicate in English, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and enhance effective working relationships with City boards and commissions, other City departments, fellow employees, and the general public.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years of Public Works experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a Class “C” Distribution Water License. Must possess Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester, Customer Service Inspection, Trench Safety Training Course, Backhoe Operator Safety Course, Work Zone Traffic Control Training Course, TxDOT Haz-Mat Endorsement, or be able to obtain required licenses within 1 year of employment. Must be in good physical condition to permit walking all day and working under adverse weather conditions. Must possess a valid Texas Class “A” CDL driver’s license with a good driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Lifting loads up to 55 lbs. (measuring up to 36”); carrying 55 lbs. (up to 15 feet); pushing/pulling 75 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools up to 25 lbs.; stair/step climbing (accessing truck); walking; sitting; standing; near/far vision; accessing sewer structures (manholes, trenches, pipes, etc.); working in outside temperatures including excess heat, cold, and precipitation.
