- Criminal Investigator (Detective)
Description
Under supervision of the Criminal Investigations Sergeant, the Detective will gather facts for crime investigations; compile evidence by observing suspects, interviewing witnesses and suspects; and examining and handling physical evidence. Detectives must keep thorough records of investigations and maintain all pertinent documents. Perform other duties as assigned. Works with other local, state and federal authorities when needed.
Investigate citizen complaints and all crimes against persons and property. Arrest offenders when probable cause exists and writes all applicable reports. Testify in court and grand jury when needed. Preserve crime scenes. Prepare warrants and warrant affidavits and executes arrest and search warrants. Files seizure paperwork when necessary. Is assigned to an on-call schedule. Files cases with the district attorney’s office. Conduct follow-up investigations after initial offense reports generated by Patrol Officers. Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses and suspects to obtain relevant facts and obtain written statements when applicable. Prepare and retain supplemental documents relevant to the investigation. Conduct canvasses, searches, and surveillance. Demonstrate competent weapons proficiency. Maintain and update records for accuracy. Identify and investigate inconsistencies in statements or information obtained during an investigation.

1. Must be a licensed Texas Peace Officer and meet all TCOLE requirements.
2. You must have a minimum of two years’ full-time police experience, usually through patrol or investigations divisions.
3. Pass a background investigation.
4. Pass physical/drug screen.
5. Pass psychological.
6. Attend basic criminal investigation school before or after hired.
