DESCRIPTION
The Economic Development Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing the City's economic growth by supporting business attraction, retention, and marketing efforts. Under the supervision of the Economic Development Director, this position is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive business retention and expansion program. The Coordinator also manages key data and compliance reporting, assists with project coordination and communication initiatives, and provides organizational support through reports, presentations, and meeting preparation. By combining strong problem solving, communication, and relationship-building skills, the Coordinator helps implement strategies that strengthen the local economy and enhance the community's competitiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration, economic development, marketing or communications preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A Valid Driver's License Class C is required at the time of placement and a clean driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database management software.
- Knowledge of public relations, business, and economic development practices.
- Knowledge of research methods, project development, and implementation.
- Skills in organization and strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
- Skills in communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders and provide exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team, to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Ability to appropriately handle politically sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to exhibit sound, accurate judgment and explain reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in decision making process.
- Ability to define problems and generate creative solutions
- Ability to work under deadlines and stressful situations.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs to attract new businesses and retain existing business.
- Assist in promoting and developing retail attraction.
- Manage databases, periodic reports, and site information.
- Manage annual compliance reporting from existing economic development agreements and reporting to the State Comptroller and other state entities as necessary.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of departmental budgets, including tracking expenses, processing invoices, and reconciling accounts, in collaboration with finance and accounting staff.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement projects.
- Prepare and distribute correspondence, reports, memos, agendas, minutes, presentations, and other documents, both electronically and in hard copy, using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Assist in the preparation and processing of departmental documents, including contracts, specifications, and bid documents, in compliance with departmental procedures and regulations.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, such as business owners, elected officials, community partners, contractors, consultants, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the public, to gather information, respond to inquiries, and facilitate communication related to departmental projects and services.
- Provide customer service and support to departmental staff, contractors, and members of the public, both in person and over the phone, by answering questions, providing information, and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform general office duties, such as photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing, and ordering supplies, to maintain an organized and efficient work environment.
- Attend and represent the City of Lufkin at certain events, functions, meetings, and conferences.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, and promote a positive work culture and team environment among colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
