SUMMARY:
We are seeking a strategic Economic Development & Special Projects Director to lead initiatives that drive economic growth and innovation. This role involves developing comprehensive strategies, managing complex projects, and fostering sustainable development. Under the direct supervision of the City Manager, this position will assist with duties that include planning, coordinating, and implementing an economic development strategy targeting development opportunities that market the City to attract new businesses, coordinate redevelopment, promote business retention and expansion, and advance programs to promote economic growth consistent with City goals and objectives. This position also assists the City Manager with Special Projects and other duties as assigned.
- Lead the design and implementation of economic development strategies that promote regional growth, business attraction, and retention.
- Assist in the recruitment of high-quality retailers, restaurants, and sales tax-generating businesses for the development of commercial tax-generating properties within city limits
- Is the staff liaison to the Economic and Community Development Advisory Committee.
- Facilitates economic development programs and activities, and administers the economic development budget.
- Facilitate efficient business/City relationships by providing assistance to the business community
- Research and develop long-term objectives, strategies and approaches to urban redevelopment and revitalization, business incentives and economic impact.
- Oversee comprehensive research program including, but not limited to, economic and community data, business trends, and inventory of sites and buildings for commercial and industrial use.
- Project management to include planning, executing, and overseeing cross-departmental projects from start to finish.
- Oversee special projects that support community revitalization, infrastructure improvements, and workforce development initiatives.
- Conduct extensive market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, investment opportunities, and economic challenges.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and policy recommendations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including government officials, business leaders, and community organizations to align project goals with city needs.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Proven experience in economic development or related fields with a strong understanding of economic dynamics.
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis skills and statistical software.
- Strong background in market research methodologies.
- Experience with data collection processes, research design, and statistical modeling such as regression analysis and forecasting.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with economic development concepts including workforce development, infrastructure planning, and community engagement.
- Strong math skills coupled with analytical thinking to interpret data trends and generate actionable insights.

Requirements
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Urban Planning or Marketing, or closely related field.
- Certified Economic Developer is highly desired.
- Two to Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in municipal government.
