This position is a full-time engineer position to cope with the services that the Engineering Department needs to render in tandem with:
The increased capital improvement project management and reviews.
The increased private development plan reviews
Evaluation and resolution of issues associated with anticipated increasing traffic/mobility in the City due to growth and anticipated developments in the City and ETJ in general, and possible effects from IH-45 Widening through the City limits in the coming years.
SHSU's and TDCJ facility's growth impacting the City's infrastructure, increased coordination, and inter-local projects.
The need to keep up with technological changes to update and maintain as-built data records and water and sewer models.
Duties and Responsibilities
Engineer will assist in:
Provide an internal review of the detailed study and design of the capital improvement project, which was designed by consulting engineers.
Designing in-house projects as needed (mainly small to medium-sized projects) that are cost-effective and time-sensitive.
Updating and maintaining engineering design criteria, standard details, construction specifications, as-built data, water, sewer, storm sewer , and street models for use in infrastructure improvement projects and to share with the development community.
Traffic engineering, Drainage, and floodplain issues.
Citizen complaints/issues on drainage, traffic, flooding, etc., and other duties in the Engineering Department / City as assigned.
Monitor works performed by the junior staff, provide support to the senior staff.
Monitor Department projects intake, distribution, and record keeping, and provide weekly project status reports.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
REQUIRED
B.S. or higher degree in Civil Engineering.
Drafting or Geographic Information Systems or equivalent training and work experience.
The successful candidates shall have the ability to acquire and develop skills in both CAD and GIS.
Professional Engineer Registration (P.E.) in the State of Texas, with a minimum of 3 years of municipal infrastructure project experience.
Floodplain project evaluation and elevation certification evaluation skills are required.
PREFERRED
Working knowledge in water distribution and wastewater collection modeling;
Certified Floodplain Manager certification from Texas Floodplain Management Association;
Experience in computer aided design (either AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley products) and Geographical Information Systems (ESRI);
Review Drainage Reports.
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
A valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
A Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Texas (P.E.)
Certification of Floodplain Manager

Ability to manage all project activities in accordance with departmental procedures, City policies, and State of Texas applicable rules and regulations, as well as any Federal regulations
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and general office practices
Knowledge of effective planning and coordination techniques
Ability to cooperate with City staff and the public
Ability to maintain a professional manner when dealing with consultants, contractors, developers, and the public
