Description
Under general supervision and using moderate latitude for independent judgment, perform routine engineering work that includes: designing, planning, overseeing work in support of construction, maintenance, alteration of structures, facilities, processes, equipment, and systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and provide improvement recommendations with preliminary and final designs and design criteria for the assigned program or projects. Assists in the preparation of preliminary and long-range plans, schedules, estimates, budgets, detailed final plans, specifications, special conditions, and agreements.
- Develop cost estimates/track expenditures, prepare cost estimates and engineering, and feasibility reports and studies for projects. Prepares and/or assists with preliminary contract documents, specifications, and plans. Prepares final plans, specifications, special conditions, and agreements, and coordinates and oversees work of contractors, affected public agencies, and utilities. Writes technical specifications for construction contracts.
- Develop, analyze, and provide recommendations for engineering reports for a variety of audiences.
Inspect and monitor projects for legal compliance by reviewing work completed by contractors and ensuring compliance with specifications by completing complex calculations that are used to further provide analysis of preliminary results of a project. - Research and perform statistical analysis for validation of reports and publication of results in various communication formats.
- Develop standard operating procedures, policies, and ordinances for the discipline area by researching, reviewing, analyzing, and updating standardized polices and practices.
- Develop and monitor performance criteria for various contracts and/or projects. May provide analysis and recommendations of the performance of various personnel assigned by contract or projects.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the City Engineer, City Manager, and Assistant City Manager.
Employment with the City of Kyle is contingent upon the outcome of record checks and verifications including, but not limited to, criminal history, driving records, education records, employment verifications, reference checks, and employment eligibility verifications. Selected candidates for positions will be subject to a background investigation and to pre-employment drug screen, depending on the position, may require a physical assessment upon a conditional job offer.
Requirements
Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job
- Four (4) years of engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle vehicle insurance provider.
Licenses or Certifications Required:
State of Texas Professional Engineer License
