JOB SUMMARY:
The Code Compliance Field Officer performs technical field inspections, enforcement, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with municipal codes and environmental regulations and protect the City’s sanitary sewer system. This position is responsible for inspecting and servicing grease traps and interceptors, investigating code violations, educating the public, and documenting compliance efforts. The role requires strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to enforce City ordinances professionally and consistently. The Field Officer will work rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Grease Trap Responsibilities:
- Inspect grease traps and grease interceptors at commercial and municipal facilities.
- Conduct routine and follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with City ordinances and regulations.
- Educate business owners on proper grease disposal and maintenance requirements, including registration of water haulers and trip tickets.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, service logs, photographs, and documentation.
- Issue notices of violation and coordinate corrective actions when non-compliance is identified.
- Monitor grease hauler manifests and maintenance records for compliance.
- Other duties as assigned
Code Compliance Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections related to property maintenance, nuisance violations, environmental concerns, and other municipal code requirements.
- Investigate citizen complaints regarding code violations.
- Issue warnings, notices of violation, citations, and other enforcement documents as authorized by position (may require certification)
- Prepare detailed case files, documentation, and evidence for court proceedings when necessary.
- Attend court and testify as required.
- Work collaboratively with other City departments, including Police, Fire, Public Works, and the Tarrant County Health Departments as needed.
- Provide education and outreach to residents and businesses regarding City ordinances and compliance standards.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations.
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate written reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public in sometimes confrontational situations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Code Enforcement Officer Certification or required to obtain within 1 (one) year of employment.
- Knowledge of municipal codes, ordinances, and enforcement procedures preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to work around wastewater, grease, chemicals, and unpleasant odors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed outdoors, in commercial facilities (including restaurant kitchens), residential areas, and office settings. The position may require after-hours inspections, emergency response, and court attendance. Exposure to wastewater, hazardous materials, and confrontational situations may occur.
