Position Summary
The Grounds Maintenance - Lead is responsible for leading and participating in the daily
maintenance, care, and improvement of city-owned grounds, parks, and facilities. This position
provides hands-on supervision to grounds staff and ensures that all landscaping, mowing, and site
maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and to city standards.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, assign, and participate in daily work activities of grounds maintenance crews.
Plan, prioritize, and schedule grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, planting,
irrigation, and cleanup.
Inspect parks, medians, rights-of-way, and public facilities to ensure proper appearance and
safety.
Operate and oversee the safe use of equipment including movers, trimmers, chainsaws, blowers,
and light machinery.
Train staff on proper landscaping techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
Monitor inventory and request supplies, tools, and materials as needed.
Assist with seasonal projects such as planting, tree trimming, fertilization, and beautification
initiatives.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, city policies, and environmental guidelines.
Respond to service requests and emergency situations such as storm debris removal.
Maintain work records, daily logs, and basic reports.
Enforce attendance, productivity, and workplace safety standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides daily direction and leadership to assigned grounds maintenance employees.
Assists with training, performance feedback, and work evaluations.
Serves as acting supervisor in the absence of the department supervisor, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related field.
At least one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of landscaping methods, irrigation systems, turf care, and plant maintenance.
Ability to lead and motivate a work crew.
Skill in operating grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
Working knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong organization, communication, and time management skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor.
Bilingual skills are a plus.
Licenses & Certifications
Possession of valid driver’s license.
