BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A professional instruction, work experience, and mentoring program for a university-level student interested in museology, history, or art as a possible career. This is a responsible position requiring organization, efficiency, and interpersonal skills.
***No minimum number of hours guaranteed***
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to demonstrated interest in history, museums, object preservation, collections management, research activities, and donor relations
- Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, of office practices and procedures
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed
- Knowledge of the Museum mission, policies, and procedures
- Ability to maintain established records and files
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and volunteers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Enrollment in a secondary-level institution or graduate program for the upcoming semester, or recent graduate with a Bachelors or Masters degree in history, museum studies, or similar field.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an indoor office environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, shredder, printer, hand tools, specialty archiving equipment, minor material moving tools such as carts, dollies, or trays, etc.
