Description
The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for an I.T. Network Technician in the Information Technology Department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will assist the Network Operations Lead with the day-to-day operations of the City’s IT network infrastructure. This is a skilled technical position responsible for maintaining and repairing information technology and communications equipment and analyzing customer requests for service and maintenances calls regarding information technology and communications equipment. The position is also responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining a variety of equipment and electronic devices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as a first responder for all help desk related issues pertaining to network infrastructure. This includes, but not limited to LAN switching, wireless networking, cabling, A/V equipment, server issues and telephony devices.
Install and maintain hardware and software for all infrastructure components such as switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, workstations, printers, mobile computing and telephony devices.
Assist in maintaining network monitoring and network mapping system.
Maintain network passwords, network operating systems, and configuration backups.
Install and maintain CAT5/CAT6 wiring, fiber-optic cabling and patch panels in a campus environment.
Troubleshoot connectivity using appropriate hand and diagnostic tools when necessary.
Provide virus detection, removal, and system recovery.
Investigate and resolve user software and hardware problems.
Interact with City departments to restore service and/or identify and correct core issues.
Recommend system modifications to reduce user problems.
Maintain currency and high level of technical skill in field of expertise.
Simulate or recreate user problems to resolve operating difficulties.
Escalate complex problems to senior-level support when required.
Answer questions applying knowledge of software, hardware, and procedures.
Contact software and hardware vendors regarding product performance issues.
Maintain inventory and manage asset management database.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Requires the availability for call out, including some mandatory overtime.
May require weekend and holiday work when necessary.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to call out in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergencies and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Performs any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and some college.
Previous experience as an IT Systems or Network Technician.
Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office suite.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with acceptable driving record.
Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screen, job related physical and background check.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Certifications are a plus (e.g. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CCT, etc.)
Two (2) years’ experience with Help Desk Support.
Two (2) years’ experience with Desktop Support.
Two (2) years’ experience with General Networking.
Two (2) years’ experience with General Security.
Two (2) years’ experience with Asset Management.
