Overview
The IT Security Specialist II role protects the City of Corpus Christi's digital assets by continuously monitoring security alerts, identifying vulnerabilities, and assisting threat mitigation. As part of a 24/7 security team, this role will analyze logs and incidents to detect unauthorized access and cyber threats, requiring shift work - including nights/weekends. This role assesses security alerts from intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and endpoint protection tools, and determines appropriate response.
Responsibilities
Responsible for safeguarding the City's information systems by executing and enhancing security operations, monitoring, and incident response activities
Perform analysis of security events and supports the implementation of security controls
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the organization's cyber security posture
Works closely with IT teams and management to identify vulnerabilities
Mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
Strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage moderately complex security tasks while escalating advanced issues as needed
Responsible for continuously monitoring the City's security infrastructure to identify, analyze, and escalate potential threats in a timely and accurate manner
Review alerts generated by network monitoring tools, endpoint protection, and other security tools, and ensure that incidents are promptly responded to
Proactively review monitoring systems and recommends improvements to reduce false positives, enhance detection capabilities, and maintain visibility across critical assets
Detect threats and contribute to the overall resilience of the City's security operations
Perform other duties as needed
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
Exempt – Full-Time – Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Must be available to work additional hours as needed
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree (AA/AS); or 2 year technical certificate
Four (4) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
Must Pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check
