Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Library Director and/or Designee, this position performs a full range of duties related to the functions of the Library Department including, but not limited to: collection management and development, cataloging, classification, and processing of library materials, inventory control, circulation services, and general customer service. The core duties of the position include work in acquisitions/purchasing, physical material processing and copy cataloging, interlibrary loan, facility rentals, and additional duties and projects as assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Library collection maintenance and development, cataloging processes, RFID encoding
- Performs original and/or copy cataloging as required
- Prepares and processes materials for circulation
- Reviews and updates the catalog records periodically to ensure materials are shelved and cataloged accurately
- Regularly review the collection to identify outdated, damaged, underutilized material and remove them from the collection
- Develop inventory control processes and procedures
- Perform statistical analysis through the collection of survey data; completion of and running of reports; compile and update statistics, reports, or analyses as required
- Evaluates donated material and gifts for inclusion in the collection then catalogs in ILS
- Manages purchase requests from the community
- Assist with library collection budget tracking
- Keeps up to date on national collection development and technical services trends, technologies, and best practices
- Manage facility rentals
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) degree from an ALA Accredited program or MLS/MLIS in progress
- 3+ years library experience preferably in Collection Development or Technical services
- A Bachelor of Arts degree plus 5+ years of relevant experience may be substituted for the MLS requirement
- Considerable knowledge of standard library practices, procedures, and technologies
