- Maintenance & Operations Specialist - Lift Station Operator
Description
Operates and maintains lift stations, SCADA Systems and related equipment to help ensure the provision of sewer services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs daily inspections of lift stations, and monitors equipment to ensure proper operating status and safety; detects malfunctions and makes necessary electrical and mechanical repairs, adjustments and/or parts replacements to restore operations
Operates trucks, crane, torch, welder, meters, power and hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and other equipment as necessary to perform daily duties
Performs general maintenance duties, including but not limited to repairing fences, mowing lawns and trimming weeds, painting equipment, repairing/building structures, installing concrete, cleans, maintains, repairs and/or rebuilds plant equipment as necessary with minimal downtime, injectors, regulators, relief valves, pumps, blowers, etc.
May repair and maintain utility lines
Collect and prepare wastewater sample for laboratory analysis
Develops, implements and oversees operation of pre-treatment program
o Oversees sewer ordinances and monitors industrial users
Monitors inspections of grease traps for compliance
Develops and maintains a database and records relating to pre-treatment program including spreadsheets, files, and maps to record dates locations, test results, etc.
Provides technical expertise and assistance to the management team to ensure the City is in compliance with federal, state, and local water quality and public health standards
Must be able to work the allocated hours of the position and be willing to report for duty on short notice at any hour of the day or night
Abides by all policies, procedures, and rules associated with the City’s Safety Program
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE OF:
City policies, procedures, ordinances and various codes affecting wastewater collection
Theories and practices of wastewater system operations
Knowledge of tools and materials used in wastewater utility projects
Customer service principles promoting positive partnership and public relations
Occupational hazards and related safety precautions and practices
Modern office equipment and standard office practices and procedures, including the ability to accurately organize and maintain files and other data
Business English, spelling and grammar, including composition of routine business correspondence
Applicable Federal, State and local laws, codes, regulations and ordinances related to wastewater collection and public health standards

Ability to operate a backhoe and crane, motors, pumps lawnmower, power tools, diagnostic and hand tools and office equipment such as a computer, telephone, two-way radio and calculator
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
Position is considered "Essential Personnel," which requires being on duty to respond during emergency situations for pre-and post-event activities including, but not limited to, natural and/or man-made disasters
Position is considered an “Essential Driver”, which requires maintaining a current valid driver license and participating in an annual motor vehicle report
Requirements
High School Diploma or successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) Test
Three (3) years full time, paid experience in utility line maintenance, utility service, equipment operations, wastewater treatment and collections
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Class C Texas Driver License
o Reliable transportation and liability insurance
Class II Wastewater Collection License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment
Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
o Criminal background check
o Controlled substance screening
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual
