The City of Alvarado is seeking a service-oriented and solutions-focused Neighborhood Services Specialist to join our growing team.
As Alvarado continues to experience rapid growth and development, this position plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing the quality of life in our community by serving as both an educator and an enforcer — working collaboratively with residents, business owners, and internal departments to resolve concerns, support neighborhood integrity, and ensure properties meet established safety, health, and maintenance standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce city codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, building safety, and related regulations.
- Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to identify and document potential violations.
- Educate property owners and residents on applicable codes and work collaboratively to achieve voluntary compliance whenever possible.
- Issue notices, citations, or warnings when necessary, and follow through to ensure corrective action is completed.
- Respond professionally and promptly to citizen complaints and service requests.
- Maintain detailed and accurate inspection records, case files, photographs, and documentation.
- Coordinate with Public Services, Police, Fire, Planning, and other departments to ensure consistent application of city standards.
- Support the City’s broader development and neighborhood improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment
- Licensed Code Enforcement Officer in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of hire
- Experience in code enforcement, building inspection, neighborhood services, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of applicable local and state codes, ordinances, and regulatory standards
- Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and customer service skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism in sensitive situations
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple active cases independently
