Description
A Reserve Police Officer for the City of Garrett Police Department serves as a sworn peace officer on a volunteer basis. Reserve Officers are required to perform the same duties and responsibilities as full-time police personnel while on duty. This includes law enforcement, patrol operations, traffic enforcement, crime deterrence, and taking enforcement action as necessary to protect life and property.

Requirements
Minimum Duty Requirements
Must work a minimum of 24 hours per month, which may be fulfilled through:
Two (2) 12-hour shifts, or
Three (3) 8-hour shifts
Must be available to cover a full-time officer’s shift when needed.
The standard full-time officer shift is 2:00 PM – 2:00 AM.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
While on duty, a Non-Paid Reserve Officer is expected to perform the same functions as a full-time Garrett Police Officer, including but not limited to:
Conduct routine patrol within the City of Garrett to deter crime and promote public safety.
Enforce state laws, city ordinances, and traffic regulations.
Conduct traffic stops, issue citations, and perform traffic enforcement duties.
Respond to calls for service, assist the public, and provide backup to other officers or agencies as needed.
Make arrests when probable cause or legal authority exists.
Conduct preliminary investigations, gather statements, and document incidents accurately.
Maintain radio communication with dispatch and other units.
Work approved traffic jobs and special assignments.
Represent the department professionally and maintain a high standard of conduct at all times.
Qualifications
Must hold a valid Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE.
Must meet all departmental training, equipment, appearance, and performance standards.
Must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Must maintain professionalism and integrity while serving the community.
Additional Expectations
Reserve Officers are expected to uphold all policies, procedures, and directives of the Garrett Police Department. Although non-paid, Reserve Officers carry the same authority and responsibility as full-time officers while on-duty and must perform accordingly.
