Description
The Water Operator maintains and completes work in Public Works and Water & Wastewater. The incumbent performs maintenance of water & wastewater, streets, drainage and other designated areas. In addition, the incumbent performs maintenance in mowing grass, weed eating and trimming of vegetation. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Director and is evaluated by the completeness and efficiency with which assignments are performed.
Requirements
Operates a variety of equipment including backhoe, brush truck, tractor mower, pickup trucks etc. as needed.
Performs installation, maintenance and repair of water mains, meters, valves and fire hydrants
Conducts pre-occupation inspections of equipment, identifies equipment problems and reports problems for repairs;
Prepare daily monthly and quarterly reports required for water monitoring and TCEQ.
Run water testing as required by TCEQ.
Respond to calls/requests that occur during normal work hours and after hours.
Complete and submit paperwork related to work orders.
Advise customers and city hall when interruptions in water service will occur; explain the nature of work using courtesy, tact, and firmness.
Visually inspects equipment for mechanical defects and report’s findings;
Observes all safety regulations and communicates potential safety hazards;
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Cleans Streets and repair potholes;
Performs meter reading;
Performs wastewater repairs;
Building maintenance and cleaning;
Performs other related duties as required.
