- Parks Laborer / Aquatics Center Manager
Description
The Parks Laborer / Aquatic Center Manager is a dual-role position responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of public parks, grounds, and recreational facilities, as well as overseeing the daily operations, safety, and staff of a municipal aquatics facility. This position requires strong organizational and leadership skills, physical labor, and a commitment to public service and safety.
Parks Laborer Duties (Typically Off-Peak Pool Season):
Perform general maintenance of parks, playgrounds, ball fields, trails, and public grounds.
Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
Install, repair, and inspect park fixtures (benches, signs, trash bins, fences).
Assist with snow removal, tree trimming, and seasonal maintenance.
Ensure cleanliness and safety of park restrooms and facilities.
Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, and painting work as needed.
Assist with event set-up and tear-down for public functions.
Follow all safety protocols and report hazards.
Aquatic Center Manager Duties (Typically Peak Pool Season):
Supervise and schedule lifeguards, cashiers, and additional staff.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal pool safety and health regulations.
Manage daily pool operations including water testing, chemical balance, cleaning, and maintenance.
Train and oversee lifeguard staff in CPR, emergency procedures, and customer service.
Monitor and maintain pool inventory (chemicals, supplies, equipment).
Handle customer service issues and respond to emergencies appropriately.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Previous experience in grounds maintenance and/or aquatic facility management
preferred.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or ability to obtain prior to season.
CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Instructor certification (or ability to obtain).
Knowledge of landscape tools and minor facility repair.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays during pool season.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to chemicals (e.g., chlorine) and lawn equipment.
May be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours.
