The City of Alvarado is seeking a dedicated Parks Maintenance Worker I to help maintain and enhance our community parks, athletic facilities, and public spaces. This position plays an important role in keeping our parks safe, clean, and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

About the Role
The Parks Maintenance Worker I performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance of city parks, athletic fields, municipal grounds, recreation facilities, and rights-of-way. This position may work independently or as part of a crew and operate a variety of maintenance equipment and vehicles. Duties include general park maintenance, landscaping, equipment operation, facility upkeep, and assisting with special events and community activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance of city parks, athletic fields, municipal grounds, recreation facilities, and rights-of-way to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained public spaces.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as commercial mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, tractors, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
- Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, debris removal, and general park upkeep.
- Assist with repairs, painting, and minor construction or maintenance of park facilities and structures.
- Drive City vehicles and equipment between work sites and perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Support Parks Division events, recreational activities, and special projects as needed.
- Work collaboratively with coworkers and other departments while providing courteous and professional service to residents and visitors.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work, follow instructions, operate maintenance equipment safely, and lift up to 100 pounds while demonstrating reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to public service.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a driving record that meets City policy
Physical Requirements:
This position requires frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, kneeling, and operating equipment for extended periods. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical
- Ability to work flexible hours, respond during emergency conditions, and assist during call-back situations
