Description
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to perform work related to the maintenance of City owned parks and properties, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Operate various types hand tools and power tools in the maintenance of parks and buildings; mows lawn with riding lawnmower or push mower, operates weedeater for extended periods of time, uses shovels, picks, clippers, hand pruner, wrenches, etc. to perform duties such as edging, trimming trees and shrubs, planting trees, shrubs, and flowers, repair and maintenance of equipment and playground equipment, installing playground equipment, etc. in a safe manner.
Cleans Park grounds area, playground area, and other City owned properties by picking up trash, broken glass bottles, and any other types of debris, and dumping into appropriate receptacle; waters park grounds as required; sweeps or blow off sidewalks, cleans rest rooms, pavilions, etc. to maintain clean and safe environment for visitors.
Distributes fertilizer, uses herbicides and insecticides to treat lawns, shrubs, trees and right-of-way areas in a safe manner.
Performs building maintenance duties such as painting, makes minor repairs of buildings such as plumbing
Installs, repairs and maintains playground equipment
Performs manual labor duties such as digging holes, pouring cement, setting fence posts, preparing plant area, etc. in safe manner.
Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; and 1 year of landscaping and maintenance work experience
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Required Knowledge of:
City Policies and procedures
Minor maintenance methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in parks and buildings such as painting, cleaning, mowing, sweeping, etc.
Tools and equipment used in the maintenance of municipal parks and facilities
Safety precautions necessary in the performance of duties.
Customer service standards and protocols
Required Skills in:
Operate light equipment, and hand tools such as lawnmower, weedeater, hand saws, wrenches, shovels, post hole digger, etc. in a safe and effective manner
Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
Perform the physical requirements of the job
Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Write records and reports
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at parks and facilities throughout the City; required to perform moderate physical work and lift up to 80 pounds.
Frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods of time
Ability to climb heights up to 30 feet on ladders, stairs, and in trees
Ability to sit for extended periods of time in operation of equipment
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and twist while performing maintenance duties
Regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and sometimes constant
