Description
The purpose of this position is to protect life and property, assist victims of violent crimes, apprehend criminals, prevent crime, and enforce federal, state, and local laws. This is accomplished by responding to 911 calls for service, gathering information, investigating traffic accidents, arresting subjects, patrolling the city, assessing the needs of victims, and providing appropriate resources, providing trained personnel and crime prevention programs. and establishing a relationship with businesses and citizens.
Essential Job Functions:
· Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls with the ability to prioritize response.
· Writes complete and detailed police reports, when necessary, in reference to calls and incidents.
· Enforce Federal, State, and local laws; make arrest while adhering to proper police procedures and file applicable charges.
· Conduct thorough initial investigations of incidents; conduct follow up investigations when necessary.
· Perform assigned patrol duties and contacting residents and business owners to identify quality of life issues; following up with citizens about prior complaints; conduct property checks; serving subpoenas and warrants; and making referrals to the appropriate City/County agency when appropriate.
· Performs miscellaneous duties including attending meetings; compiling reports, communicating with other officers or detectives regarding cases; and occasionally speaking to civic groups.
· Appears in Court by complying with scheduled court dates; answering subpoenas to appear on days other than regularly scheduled dates; reviewing reports and notes; testifying; discussing the case with an assigned attorney as appropriate; and assisting in contacting witnesses and serving subpoenas.
· Maintains weapons and protective equipment by inspecting all equipment and weapons to ensure proper operation; managing supply and material inventories; placing orders; and inspecting assigned vehicles.
· Works in a safe manner, follows departmental safety policies and procedures, and reports unsafe activity and conditions.
· Works independently in the absence of supervision
· Reports to work free from effects of drugs/controlled substances and/or alcohol, and free from the impairment due to prescription drugs.
· Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
· High School Diploma or GED
· Licensed by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
· Must be able to read and write English.
· At the time of appointment, must be at least 21 years of age.
· Valid Texas Driver's License at the time of appointment.
· Must pass a complete physical, audio examination, and drug test meet all the requirements of the Spring Valley Village Police Department
· Must be examined by a licensed psychologist, selected by the Spring Valley Village Police Department, and declared in writing to be in satisfactory psychological and emotional health to serve as a peace officer.
· Complete and submit personal history statement.
