Description
The City of Olmos Park is now accepting applications for a Permit Technician to support the Building Department. This position provides technical and administrative assistance related to building permits, plan review coordination, and customer service for residents, contractors, and developers.

Requirements
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
- Input, track and process permits and maintain thorough documentation for associated permits and certificates of occupancy
- Answer general questions and provide guidance related to processes and services including applying for permits, submittal requirements, code interpretations and other procedures to citizens, developers, contractors, and builders
- Research and utilize applicable standards within the international codes to assist customers with their development questions
Other Job Functions:
- Provide general technical support to the building official, the fire department, the police department, and the third-party inspection and planning staff
- Provide general assistance to the building official in preparing for Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning, and city council meetings
- Other job functions as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures
- Knowledge of codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to commercial and residential building construction
- Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications
- Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means
- Skill with organization and attention to detail
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies
- Ability to work independently under general instructions
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier
- Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks
- Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives
- Ability to present before a city board, commission or council meeting in the absence of the building official
- Ability to work within a set schedule
- Ability to read plot plans and site plans of residential and commercial projects and the ability to read and Interpret blueprints
Qualifications:
- High School Degree
- One (1) year of related experience issuing building permits. Two (2) years preferred.
- One (1) year of related experience working in a municipality
- One (1) year of related experience using MGO or equivalent permitting software
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: Starting hourly wage range of $24.04 - $28.37
- Health Benefits: Comprehensive health and dental coverage covered by city at 100% for employees, with some benefits extending to dependents not enrolled in city health plan
- Retirement Plan: Participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 7% employee contribution and a 2:1 employer match; optional deferred compensation accounts available
