The Thorndale Police Department is a diverse, motivated, community-oriented department seeking a police officer with honesty and integrity, who is willing to face a variety of challenges and responsibilities. A career with the Thorndale Police Department offers a variety of assignments. Thorndale police have specialized training in criminal investigations, animal control, traffic enforcement, community service, and other areas of police work. Our officers are proud members of a modern progressive police department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: enforcing state and municipal laws in order to ensure the safety of all citizens, investigating criminal offenses including gathering evidence, identifying and arresting suspects, preparing and presenting case information, providing community outreach, investigating traffic collisions and directing traffic at accident scenes. You may also be asked to respond to disturbance calls such as fights, burglaries, robberies, and crimes in progress to include physically controlling the offender. You may also participate in specialized investigations by performing undercover sting operations, gathering intelligence, participating in criminal investigations, and assisting in the surveillance of suspects and suspected criminal locations. You may also assist allied agencies including Milam County Sheriff's Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Game Warden, Milam County Constable, fire, EMS, local schools, etc.
Requirements
High school graduation or its equivalent, graduation from a recognized Texas police academy and a current, valid Texas Peace Officer's License. Maintain appropriate necessary certifications and licenses applicable to job responsibilities, including Texas driver's license.
Criminal law and procedures relating to seizure and confiscation of property and assets, city ordinances, patrol procedures, accident investigation, police communications, use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment, crime prevention and detection methods.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, law enforcement agencies, judicial officials, citizens, and the general public. Understand and follow written and oral instruction, departmental policy, rules, regulations and laws. Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and reasonable course of action. Operate a vehicle under routine and emergency conditions. Communicate well, both orally and in writing. Tolerate outside working conditions.
Preferences:
Current certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Care Attendant (ECA), Specialized training and experience.
