NOTICE OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE OFFICER
Eligibility list will become effective immediately following completion of existing list.
SALARY RANGE:
Non-Certified
$76,765.65 to $93,309.13 Annually
Certified
$80,603.94 to $93,309.13 Annually
Signing Bonus of $5,000 available to Certified Police Officers

Candidates who are interested in taking the entrance level exam for the position of Police Officer must have their application on file with the Director of Civil Service by 5:00 p.m. March 13, 2026.
To receive veteran’s preference points, a copy of the DD214 form showing an Honorable discharge must be submitted prior to application deadline. Any designation other than Honorable will not be accepted for veteran’s points. ONLY SUBMIT DD214 AT THIS TIME.
Applicants must meet the minimum requirements to be eligible to take the test.
CONTENT OF EXAMINATION:
The written portion of the examination is a comprehensive reading and writing exam. The passing score of the examination is 70. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to a score of 70 or above. The written examination will establish the eligibility list. The list will remain in effect for a twelve-month period unless exhausted.
Candidates passing the written portion of the exam will be directed to complete physical agility testing. The testing will be performed on a Concept 2 Rowing Machine. Physical readiness will be established at 25% VO2 max percentage based on a 2,000-meter row. The time on the 2,000-meter row is determined by your height, weight, age, and gender.
Candidates who pass the written exam and physical agility will be subject to a driver analysis, background investigation, medical exam (including drug screen), psychological exam, polygraph exam and any other job relevant investigation deemed necessary.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Twenty-one (21) years of age (may test prior to 21st birthday but cannot be hired until age of 21 has been reached)
Must be a high school graduate, or possess a GED with twelve (12) hours of college in order to attend a basic police officer academy.
Must be a United States citizen at the time of application and comply with the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Texas Vehicle Operator License (or ability to obtain such)
Conform to height and weight standards
Eyesight 20/70 corrected to 20/20 with normal color vision
Ability to work various shifts, weekends and holidays
Physical ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; to walk, run, climb, crawl in pursuit of suspects; to drag and lift an average body weight; to work outdoors in inclement weather and extreme temperatures
Participate in and pass a written test, physical agility test, a background check, a psychological examination, a polygraph examination, interview, and medical examination (including drug and alcohol testing)
