Position Summary
Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and promoting public safety within the City of Aransas Pass and surrounding tri-county area.
Primary responsibilities include:
Conducting proactive patrols throughout the city and tri-county area
Enforcing federal, state, and local laws, including traffic and criminal statutes
Responding to calls for service and emergency situations
Operating emergency vehicles and, when necessary, patrol boats
Engaging professionally and courteously with residents and visitors
Officers assigned to school campuses are additionally responsible for:
Patrolling school grounds
Enforcing applicable laws and ordinances
Maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff
Officers work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may be required to perform duties under hazardous or high-stress conditions.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (TCOLE Requirements)
Applicants must be fully licensed and in good standing with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and meet the minimum standards outlined in 37 Tex. Admin. Code §217.1.
Applicants must:
Be a citizen of the United States
Be at least 21 years of age
Possess one of the following from an accredited institution:
High school diploma or GED
Associate degree
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or Ph.D.
Submit fingerprints for local, state, and national background checks
Not have:
A conviction above a Class B misdemeanor
A Class B misdemeanor conviction with community supervision/probation within the past 10 years
Any offense involving family violence (as defined under Chapter 71, Texas Family Code)
Not be currently charged with any disqualifying criminal offense
Not be prohibited by state or federal law from:
Operating a motor vehicle
Possessing firearms or ammunition
Successfully complete a City-approved medical examination confirming:
Physical fitness for duty
No drug dependency or illegal drug use
Hold a valid Class C Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
Be of good moral character with stable employment history
Be in good mental health (psychological pre-screening required)
Have no TCOLE license suspensions or revocations
If prior military service, possess no less than an honorable discharge
If previously employed as a peace officer, hold no less than a general discharge from TCOLE
Additional Qualifications & Skills
Strong working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, and general technology
Ability to make independent decisions in high-stress situations
Ability to maintain composure during emotionally charged incidents
Ability to multitask efficiently and effectively
Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
Police experience is not required for patrol assignments; however, quality experience is preferred.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Officers must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 80 pounds
Push or pull up to 100 pounds
Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and bend as required
Sit or stand for extended periods
Clearly see and hear in traffic and around equipment
Drive safely and maintain a good driving history
Work may occur:
Indoors and outdoors
In extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather
Around dust, odors, electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards
Applicants must pass:
A comprehensive background investigation
Psychological testing
Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing
A physical ability demonstration may be required prior to appointment.
Officers must be available for call-in with little to no prior notice and must keep current contact information (address, email, and phone number) on file with the department.
Compensation
Upon successful completion of the probationary period, officers receive a $6,600 annual First Responder Retention Stipend, paid monthly.
This stipend is:
In addition to the officer’s base salary
Funded by the Crime Control and Prevention District Board
Subject to annual budget approval
