The City of Lorena is accepting applications for Police Officer. Lorena is a city in southern McLennan County (Waco) and it's population is just under 2,000. Lorena is on the IH 35 corridor and is expected to experience exceptional growth in the next 5 years. The school district is served by the Lorena ISD and is top rated.
The city is governed by an elected, progressive city council and a city manager. The Lorena Police Department has an authorized strength of 10 officers and two support staff. Lorena Police also has four SRO positions that serve the Lorena ISD.
The Lorena Police Department is proud to be a "Recognized Agency" by the Texas Police Chiefs' Association Foundation and was recently "re-recognized" in June 2025.
Job Description
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of duties involved the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic regulations; issues citations; participates in and conducts a variety of criminal investigations; makes arrests; provides support and assistance to special crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.
Job Hiring Requirements:
Applicants must possess the following:
(1) A High School Diploma or GED
(2) Basic Peace Officer License (preferred)
(3) Must have a valid Texas Driver's License
(4) Must pass an extensive background check and drug/alcohol screen
(5) Medical evaluation
(6) Psychological evaluation
(7) Oral Board and
(8) Staff Review.
Salary is DOE, up to $54,400 per year. All equipment and uniforms are furnished. Officers currently work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off. All officers have assigned take-home vehicles.
