Description
The City of Denver City is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer, entry level or lateral transfer. Our current entry level pay rate is $32.63 p/h. We work 12-hour Panama shifts (3-3-2-2-2-2), which allows for every other 3-day weekend off and an automatic built-in 8 hours of comp time for every 28-day work period. Because of our work schedule, almost every officer easily reaches overtime status, which entry-level pays $48.95 p/h.
For those considering a lateral transfer, we also offer 'TCOLE Pay' in lieu of longevity pay or certificate pay. Longevity pay was based on your time with Denver City, and 'TCOLE pay' will be based on your certificate level and number of years with a TCOLE Peace Officer's License, regardless of agency you served. For many, this eliminates transferring from another department and losing out on pay incentives just for moving to a new department.
We also get paid bi-weekly (26 paychecks per year), and then receive our 'TCOLE Pay', along with any city-wide stipends, paid in one lump sum (usually the last paycheck in November - perfect for upcoming Christmas time).
TCOLE Pay maxes out at 20 years with a Masters certification for an annual lump sum payment of $8,400. This year, we will have three of our employees at this milestone.
Job duties include, but are not limited to, enforcing state and federal laws and ordinances of the City of Denver City. Candidates must undergo a background investigation, oral interview, physical examination, psychological evaluation and drug screen.
Requests for an application may be mailed to the Denver City Police Department, PO Box 1539, Denver City, TX 79323, requested by phone at 806-592-3516, by email at jchrisballard@denvercitytexas.org, or picked up at the Denver City Police Department at 310 W 4th Street in Denver City. Applications accepted until the position has been filled.
Excellent benefits including: health insurance, cancer insurance, life insurance, 2-to-1 retirement match and use of a take-home vehicle for local travel. We also just recently moved into a newly-built police station.
Requirements
Must have TCOLE certification (or attending an Academy for certification) and have a valid Texas Drivers License.
