The City of Cockrell Hill is accepting applications for qualified police officers to join our team and our community.
Job Summary
Police Officer performs professional law enforcement duties to protect life and property, preserve the peace, prevent crime, and enforce federal, state, and local laws and City ordinances. Responds to calls for service, conducts criminal and traffic investigations, enforces traffic laws, and performs patrol functions to ensure the safety and security of the community. Maintains positive relationships with the public through community-oriented policing while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in all situations. Completes reports, maintains records, and performs related law enforcement duties as assigned.
Work Schedule
Police Officers are assigned to full-time positions working 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule consisting of four consecutive workdays followed by three consecutive workdays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record.
- Must be able to work effectively in a small-town community.
- Must hold a current TCOLE Peace Officer License.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties of a Police Officer include, but are not limited to:
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity while operating a City-issued patrol vehicle.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and take appropriate action.
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws and City ordinances.
- Observe, detect, investigate, and apprehend violators of the law.
- Conduct criminal and traffic investigations, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects, and determine appropriate enforcement action.
- Collect, preserve, and document evidence; identify and apprehend suspects; recover stolen property.
- Prepare accurate reports, affidavits, written statements, investigative documentation, and arrest and search warrant applications.
- Exercise sound judgment and make decisions under routine, stressful, and emergency conditions.
- Participate in required training and maintain TCOLE licensing and proficiency standards.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, fellow employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and be available for emergency call-back as needed.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as directed.
Work Environment
This position involves the rapid and efficient performance of law enforcement duties under both routine and emergency conditions. Officers are regularly exposed to hazardous situations that may involve threats to personal safety and life.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Successful candidates should possess the ability to:
- Analyze situations and solve problems using sound judgment.
- Conduct thorough investigations and determine appropriate enforcement actions.
- Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while exercising good judgment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.
- Provide professional customer service during routine and high-stress situations.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Operate computers and law enforcement software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and records management systems.
- Maintain the physical fitness necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
