Role and Responsibilities
Patrols assigned areas in prevention of crime and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, performs related work as required.

•         Patrols streets and assigned areas using a patrol car to control traffic.
•         Issue citations to traffic violators.
•         Service warrants issued by the Court of jurisdiction where issued.
•         Receive dispatched calls and answer complaints issues by the citizens of the City of Palacios.

At crime and accident scenes, administers aid, summons necessary assistance, conducts investigation; gathers, protects and transports physical evidence; locates witnesses; makes necessary arrests; prepares and submits detailed written reports.

•         Assists citizens and tourists in need of information and/or help.
•         Writes and files daily activity reports with supervising officer.
•         Patrol will assist the investigator at all crime scenes under the investigator’s direction.
•         When not on call, the officer is expected to patrol the City in a manner to deter and/or prevent crime (high visibility).
•         Carry out all lawful tasks and assignments assigned by supervisory personnel.
•         Interact with citizens and visitors in a positive and professional manner.
•         Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor(s).

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements
High School Graduate or GED, valid Class C Driver's License. Must be certified as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Additional Notes
Must pass a background check and drug screen.  Must be capable of pursuing suspects and criminals either on foot or by automobile, sometimes involving high speeds; using force, up to and including deadly force (including firearms) when necessary to prevent crime and apprehend suspects and criminals; physically restrain suspects and criminals who may be struggling vigorously; rescue and administer or obtain aid for crime or accident victims; and capable of handling verbal and physical hostility and aggression.
