The City of Alvarado Police Department is seeking dedicated and service-oriented individuals to join our team as Police Officers. Officers play a vital role in protecting life and property, maintaining public trust, and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Alvarado. This position involves responding to calls for service, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, preventing crime, and working collaboratively with the community to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Police Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate professionalism, and uphold the highest standards of integrity while serving the community.

- Enforce federal, state, and local laws, including criminal and traffic statutes.
- Respond to calls for service and emergency situations in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct proactive patrols to deter crime and maintain a visible police presence within the community.
- Investigate incidents, crimes, and traffic accidents.
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports, offense reports, citations, and related documentation.
- Interact with residents, businesses, and visitors in a professional manner while providing education, assistance, and resources when appropriate.
- Gather and preserve evidence and conduct preliminary investigations.
- Testify in municipal, county, or district court proceedings when required.
- Maintain departmental equipment and vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Participate in required state-mandated training and departmental professional development.
- Support community policing initiatives and work collaboratively to enhance the safety and quality of life in Alvarado.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule
Police Officers must be available to work any shift, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs.
- Shifts are typically twelve (12) hours.
- Officers may be required to work extended hours beyond their scheduled shift when necessary for operational demands, emergencies, or investigations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a TCOLE Peace Officer License.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must pass a written examination (minimum passing score of 70%).
- Must pass a physical fitness test (2000-meter row; no time limit).
- Must have an acceptable criminal history in accordance with TCOLE standards.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and be eligible to operate a motor vehicle.
- Must not be prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
- If applicable, must have an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces as documented by DD214 or equivalent.
- Must successfully complete the department’s background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and physical examination/drug screening prior to appointment.
