Job Summary:
The Public Safety Officer / Jailer I is responsible for overseeing all operations within the jail facility, ensuring the safety and control of inmates. Key duties include booking, searching, and supervising inmates, managing behavior, coordinating meal deliveries, and handling the release of inmates and related information. Additionally, this role involves conducting regular checks and prisoner counts, as well as escorting inmates when necessary, maintaining a secure and orderly environment at all time
Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Valid Texas driver’s license.
Certification - TCOLE Municipal Jailer Course 3510 completed within one (1) year of employment.
Essential Job Functions:
Processes inmates by completing searches; conducting inventories; confiscating personal property, unauthorized items, and related materials; conducting screening tests; recording personal and medical information, completing identifying processes including fingerprinting and photographing; collecting revenues; and ensuring inmate safety and security.
Escorts prisoners by removing inmates from cells; handcuffing inmates; and escorting or transporting and assisting inmates with court proceedings as needed.
Administer and supervise mealtime, visitation and other activities of currently housed inmates.
Perform periodic checks and cell searches to ensure prisoner safety; controlling internal and external doors; monitoring surveillance systems; monitoring behaviors; reviewing inmate populations.
Processes paperwork and related information by reviewing requests; releasing appropriate information; reporting incidents; disseminating relevant information; testifying when required; and submitting to the appropriate section or organization.
Perform general housekeeping duties to ensure cleanliness of facility.
Maintains inventory of supplies and completes daily reports of activities and records inmate and staff activity.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. May work in outside settings. Subject to sitting for an extended period of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 75 pounds.
