Description

Job Summary: Assists in electrical construction, maintenance, and repair. Works in all aspects of 
municipal electrical distribution servicing, except under “hot” conditions.  
Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general direction of the Utility Department 
Supervisor.  
Essential Job Functions:  
1. Carry out in a safe, prompt, efficient, and workmanlike manner the instructions of the utility 
department supervisor.  
2. Climb utility poles and towers using a bucket truck to access high voltage lines safely.  
3. Inspect and test power lines and equipment.  
4. Repair damaged or malfunctioning lines.  
5. Install, repair and maintain both overhead and underground electrical power lines that 
distribute electricity from substations to homes, business and/or industries.  
6. Trim trees and vegetation new power lines.  
7. Replace defective devices.  
8. Document work and prepare reports.  
9. Follow strict safety protocols.  
10. Use PPE.  
11. Ground lines and open switches to safely remove electrical hazards.  
12. Attend regular safety trainings.  
13. Technical knowledge of electrical systems and power distribution systems.  
14. Problem solving and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve electrical issues efficiently.  
15. Teamwork and communication skills for coordinating with co-workers.  
16. Physical fitness and comfort with heights to perform demanding work in various weather 
conditions.  
17. Be knowledgeable of and apply accepted safety standards. Know the use of tools and be able 
to use them accordingly.  
18. Assist in addressing service calls. Assist in installing transformers and other equipment.  
19. Respond to emergencies as directed.  
20. Pulls stand-by duty on weekends and holidays.  
21. Read meters (electrical and water)  
22. Encourage morale.  
23. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:  
Knowledge in departmental operations and in safe operation of equipment used in the 
department.  
Knowledge of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of light 
and heavy motorized equipment to the extent they are used in the department.  
Skill to communicate verbally and in writing.  
Skill in performing work requiring strength and agility in all weather conditions.  
Skill to follow oral and written directions.  
Skill in performing routine vehicle and equipment maintenance.  
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.  
Ability to communicate effectively with the public.  
Ability to receive written and verbal instructions.  
Qualifying Education and Experience:  
High school degree or GED.  
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.  
CDL preferred
